If you're like most RVers, you can't wait to hit the open road as soon as the weather warms up.

But before you do, you need to make sure your RV is ready for winter storage. Here are a few basic steps to winterize your RV:

1. Clean out your holding tanks and add antifreeze. This will prevent your tanks from freezing and cracking in the cold weather.
2. Disconnect your water lines and drain all the water from your system. Be sure to add RV antifreeze to your freshwater tank, hot water heater, and all other water lines. However, please be sure to use RV-specific antifreeze, which is pink and non-toxic. Automotive antifreeze is blue and highly toxic.
3. Remove all perishable food from your refrigerator and freezer. If possible, turn off your refrigerator and freezer a few days before winterizing to help them defrost.

4. Inspect your roof and seal any cracks or holes. This will help prevent water damage from snow and ice.
5. Check your tires and propane tanks for leaks. Fill your propane tanks to keep them from freezing in the cold weather.
6. Bring in any rugs or mats that you have outside your RV. These can absorb moisture and cause mildew to form.
7. Cover your RV with a tarp or storage cover to protect it from the elements.
Following these simple steps will help ensure that your RV is ready for winter storage and will be in great condition when you're ready to hit the road again.
